With over 24,000 businesses across a variety of industries, Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) has developed into a reputable business district. Setting up a company here opens great networking opportunities for owners. At Excellence, our team of JLT business setup consultants works closely with clients to assess their specific business requirements and propose the most suitable company structure and complete all setup procedures. We aim to cut through the complexities of the setup process so operations can begin without any regulatory hurdles.
Unifying the Framework: The Evolution of JLT and DMCC Licensing
Understanding the DMCC and JLT relationship is simple. Tech companies, trading houses, corporate consultants, and international commodity traders can be found in JLT. Previously, the authority used to differentiate between industries and granted a JLT license to any other commercial activity and a DMCC license to commodities. Since February 2014, this dual-licensing system no longer exists. At present, all businesses, regardless of their commercial activities, are required to get a single DMCC Free Zone License. This license offers access to free zone tax benefits and 100% foreign ownership.
What is Business Setup Consultancy in JLT?
A business setup consultancy in JLT is a licensed firm backed by seasoned consultants who know the ins and outs of the company formation process in the given region. From getting a DMCC license to applying for a visa and bank account, consultants are there at every step of the journey. Their assistance moves beyond the setup stage as they offer post-formation assistance. Hence, they will remind you of annual license renewals and take care of bookkeeping so your books always stay in order. In addition, you will receive proactive updates on all changing regulations.

Why Engage With JLT Free Zone Company Setup Consultants?
When it comes to setting up a company in Dubai's famous hub, even minor choices play a critical role in the company's success. This makes the assistance of company formation professionals necessary:
- Before initiating the formation process, they assess the type of commercial activity and company ownership requirements. This helps them suggest the most suitable company structure.
- Depending on the chosen business activity, the licensing procedures and external approvals vary. Company formation experts in JLT will take care of all these procedures on your behalf.
- The company formation process involves a lot of paperwork, like registration and government formalities. Consultants will prepare all these documents and coordinate with authorities, too.
- Professionals make sure the initial setup is in place so there are fewer chances of amendments or restructuring later.
- If you are a first-time business owner or an overseas founder, getting through all local requirements and laws can be challenging. However, business formation experts will make you understand each requirement and resolve all your doubts during and after the process.

Business Setup Consultants in JLT: Key Factors to Consider Before Engaging One
When shortlisting consultants, there are several factors that extend beyond the initial company registration worth considering. A number of questions can help in determining whether the hired business setup consultancy in JLT will be able to support the business both before and after incorporation:
- Properly licensed and established: Confirm that the consultant is licensed in the UAE and has a physical office in the country.
- Relevant track record: Ask how long the company has been operating, and what is the experience with establishing companies similar to the one under consideration for incorporation.
- Support beyond incorporation: Determine whether the consultancy offers visa, banking, tax, license renewal and other services beyond the initial company setup.
- Clear pricing: Request a detailed quotation, which will outline government fees, professional fees and any other charges.
- Verifiable client feedback: Beyond testimonials on the company’s website, check reviews and feedback on third-party platforms.
- Established local relationships: Ensure they have experience in working with free zones, government entities and banks. This will support the efficiency of the setup process.

Frequently Asked Questions
With our proactive and client-centric approach to accounting services in Dubai and across the UAE, clients gain peace of mind knowing they are fully compliant and well-positioned for success in a dynamic regulatory landscape.
It is the process of registering a business in the Jumeirah Lakes Towers district, which falls under the region’s largest free zone authority, Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC). In order to set up a business physically in JLT, businessmen have to obtain a DMCC trade license.
Beware of the following red flags while hiring a consultancy:
- Suspect extremely low packages with vague information about services.
- Avoid any consultancy promising 'guaranteed' bank account or visa approval as approvals are subject to banks and immigration authorities.
- Do not fall for aggressive upfront payment demands before the legal process is fully explained to you.
- Do not enter into an agreement without a scope of work and a written contract.
Once you have completed the paperwork, you can usually expect to receive the license within 3-10 days. However, Emirates ID, visas and bank account details can take 3-5 weeks to process.
DMCC may request the following documents prior to issuing the trade license:
- For Individual Shareholders & Directors: A passport copy that's valid for at least 6 months, a recent utility bill or bank statement as proof of address, and copies of your Emirates ID and UAE visa (if already residing in the country).
- For Corporate Shareholders: If another company owns the new entity, you must submit its Certificate of Incorporation, Memorandum and Articles of Association (MOA/AOA), and a signed Board Resolution authorising the setup. Get all the Foreign documents attested by the UAE Embassy and MOFA.
- For Company Registration: Also, submit your proposed trade names, an outline of business activities, a valid JLT office lease or flexi-desk agreement, and a bank reference letter.
DMCC requires a physical office or approved workspace in the zone, but a flexi-desk satisfies this requirement for many companies.
- Flexi-desks typically accommodate up to 3 to 5 visas.
- Private offices have a quota based on floor area, broadly one visa for every 9 square metres.
The general advice is to choose the smallest workspace option that will accommodate your initial visa plans and upgrade later if needed.
Though JLT is a free zone, it doesn’t mean that any company in this region is free from corporate taxes. A zero per cent corporate tax is payable by an entity established under JLT on qualifying income under QFZP guidelines. Income that does not meet the qualifying criteria shall be taxed at 0% on taxable income up to AED 375000 and 9% on the income exceeding this amount.
